Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day!
Nov/26/09 12:16
As I was driving into work today, staring at the New York City skyline, I started to reflect on all that I was thankful for. The first few moments of thought were spent on my family. One week from the day after Thanksgiving is my 10th anniversary to my wife. She is the best and to say that her tenure as my wife is a test of her endurance is an understatement. My wife has seen me go from zero to explosion on any number of occasions from Al Gore trying to steal the election from George W. Bush, the New Jersey Nets 2 failed NBA finals appearances, countless Steelers losses they should have won and silly things too like losing in a game of XBOX.
My wife has come to love even though I will double down with $400 dollars down on the blackjack table. She tolerates me even though I am limited in my housekeeping skills. She laughs at me when I have drank one too many and start ripping away with inappropriate jokes. And most of all she likes me, for who I am and allows me to be that person 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I am thankful for a great wife and the first 10 years of a special relationship that will last forever.
My children and my mother were heavy on my heart today too. My mom died the day after my wife and I got married and there is not a day that goes by I do not think of her. She was a good person, with never a bad intention. I love her and miss her. I wish she could be here to see all that I have accomplished after a bit of a rough start in adulthood, I know she is watching and hope she is proud. My kids are my life. I miss them everyday that I am not near them. I think about them all the time and am proud of the people they are and the young adults they are turning out to be. They have a bright future ahead of them and I have recommitted myself to being in the best shape of my life so I can live long to see all of their dreams come true.
I am also thankful for a great family that is close to me here in New Jersey and extended to Pennsylvania and Florida. I have 2 wonderful sisters who have amazing children. I love being the kid around my nephews and the spoiling the little princess, my niece. I grew up with cousins on my mother’s side I am still close with and always enjoy when they are around. My dad is an amazing person who I never heard speak badly about someone else. My wife and I live with him now and he is a huge help and I love being around him. Overall, my family is unique, funny, typical, generous, overbearing and best of all, they are mine and I am thankful for all of them.
The thirty minute drive brought me full circle to the reason I contribute to this blog. I want my country to be a better place to live for me, my family and friends. I am thankful I live in the greatest country on God’s green earth. I am thankful for our founders, while not perfect, had the best plan for citizen representation in the history of government. I am thankful George Washington did not want to be a king and term limited himself after 8 years as President. I am wondering why that is not good enough today for senators like Robert Byrd, Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, and even John McCain. Follow one of the greatest Americans and term limit yourself.
I am thankful for President’s Reagan and both Bush’s, moral and principal led leaders that allowed God into the White House once again. I am thankful that our worst Presidents, Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter, are better than most countries best leaders. I am thankful the American people realized after 4 years of Carter we needed a Reagan and hoping for history to repeat itself in 2012. I am thankful for the greatest fighting force this earth has every seen, the United States military, and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving from the safety of my home. A safety they provide everyday. I am thankful to live in a country of opportunity and Direct TV. And most of all thankful to God for allowing me to live this blessed life. To all my friends, family, and followers of this blog HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
